Just how much online programming (full episodes, clips, webisodes) are deaf and hard of hearing people missing out on? Much more than even we thought! So, in this blog post, which will be revised continually, we will maintain a running list of which broadcasters and retransmitters are captioning full episodes, clips, and webisodes online, and which are not not captioning online. This will hopefully enable Caption Action 2 to demonstrate the full scope of the problem..
Note: Research is done, for now. Just about EVERY cable channel is offering online viewing of full episodes, clips, or webisodes (webisodes are original programming created just for the web).

intresting.. Hulu ? they just retransmit the the feed, if the feed has it - then the other web streaming video SHOULD have it.
ReplyDeleteCNET, which is owned by CBS, has a few closed-captioned episodes available. Sooo, if CNET has closed-captioning available, why is it not available on CBS.com and its family?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't see Fancast.com on there - they're retransmitters, and they don't caption anything.
Great list! I love Hulu and Hulu is leading the way for other online providers. But even Hulu doesn't caption very much content. Only 4.16% of episodes and 6.39% of movies are currently captioned as of July 7. (It's easy to search Hulu for all episodes or all movies and then see how many are listed under closed captioned. [Search for type:episode and type:movie]).
ReplyDeleteSo Hulu has a long way to go. Hulu simply stands out at this point because so few providers are offering CC content. Perhaps Hulu deserves an asterisk in your list so readers don't get the impression that Hulu's content is fully captioned.

No mention of BBC shows on your list? iPlayer tries but it's organization is not yet up to Hulu's par. Not as bad as CNET though ... Here's a tip (maybe) - to find caption/subtitled videos, easiest thing for me to start with is the 22frames.com search here: http://www.22frames.com You know about this? ... It does other kinds of videos for deaf/HOH. I think caption videos are not only kind that deaf can watch. Can't explain too well so read their 'about' page.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't the close caption on for the Investigation Discovery Channel? I am deaf so please do something about it. All my other channels are fine-I have close caption on all the others. This is ridiculous!
ReplyDeletePut the close caption back on the Investigation Channel please. I am deaf!!!
